Major Boost to Connectivity! 4-Lane Bridge Coming to  Sukhna Choe Sector 26 Chandigarh

A New Era of Infrastructure in Chandigarh

The Chandigarh Administration has unveiled plans to construct a  four-lane bridge over Sukhna Choe in Sector 26   Chandigarh  marking another milestone in the city’s growing infrastructure network. Designed to improve mobility and reduce congestion the project reflects the city’s focus on  modern, sustainable and people-centric development .

Bridging the Gap — The Vision Behind the Project

  • This bridge is more than just a passageway it’s a solution to ease traffic chaos and ensure smooth connectivity between  Sector 26, IT Park and MDC  .The plan aligns with Chandigarh’s  Smart City vision promoting efficient urban mobility for residents and commuters alike.
  • Officials revealed that the project is estimated to cost around  ₹2.5 crore . The  Urban Planning Department is expected to grant design approval by  next month paving the way for its execution.

Design,Scope and Construction Plan

  • The proposed 4-lane bridge will feature  modern engineering, eco-friendly design and  advanced drainage systems to ensure long-term durability. The design emphasizes  pedestrian safety and smoother vehicular movement, reducing travel time during peak hours.
  • The planned bridge will include both a  pedestrian walkway and a  separate cycling lane ensuring safe and convenient access for walkers and cyclists alike.Construction is expected to begin soon after approvals

Connectivity and Urban Benefits

  • Once the bridge is constructed it will  decongest key routes improve connectivity to  industrial and IT hubs and offer a smoother link to areas near  Manimajra and Panchkula . The improved mobility is expected to  boost real estate demand and enhance accessibility to Chandigarh’s eastern sectors.
  • During this year’s monsoon the causeway was shut after excess water release from Sukhna Lake causing heavy traffic on Madhya Marg. To prevent future disruptions a  four-lane elevated bridge is planned to ensure smooth connectivity between  Chandigarh, IT Park, Sector 13, Kishangarh ,MDC and Madhya Marg during rainy seasons.

Public Impact and City Transformation

  • For residents this project means  shorter commutes, better air quality and  stronger local development . Businesses in the vicinity are likely to benefit from increased footfall and faster logistics making Sector 26 a more vibrant urban destination.
  • The upcoming bridge will  replace the existing low lying causeway , easing traffic congestion during peak hours. It aims to  reduce heavy rush and improve traffic flow during morning and evening commutes.

Conclusion — Driving Chandigarh Toward a Seamless Future

The upcoming  4-lane bridge over Sukhna Choe represents Chandigarh’s commitment to smart, connected infrastructure. With sustainability and innovation at its core the project will not only improve daily life but also strengthen the city’s reputation as  India’s most planned and progressive urban center .
