Chandigarh Gears Up for a Landmark Infrastructure Upgrade
Chandigarh is preparing for a major boost in infrastructure as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate and lay the foundation for development projects worth nearly ₹4,600 crore . Covering both transportation and healthcare these initiatives are designed to improve mobility, strengthen medical services and support long term growth across Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula and nearby regions.
One of the most significant announcements is the construction of the Zirakpur Bypass a modern six lane corridor that aims to divert heavy traffic away from the city's busiest intersections. The project is expected to reduce congestion, shorten travel time and create smoother connectivity for commuters travelling between Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh .
Another key development is the Mohali IT City Kurali Expressway which will offer faster road access to residential sectors, IT parks, educational institutions and industrial zones. By improving connectivity the expressway is likely to encourage investment and support future urban expansion in the region.
The healthcare sector will also receive a significant push through new projects at PGIMER Chandigarh . Modern medical infrastructure including advanced treatment centres for neurosciences and maternal & child healthcare is expected to enhance patient care and reduce pressure on existing facilities.
In addition a new critical care hospital block will further strengthen emergency and intensive care services. These developments are expected to benefit patients not only from but also from neighbouring states that rely on PGIMER for specialized treatment.
The upcoming projects go beyond new buildings and highways. Better roads can improve daily commuting, reduce transportation costs and make business movement more efficient. At the same time expanded healthcare infrastructure will improve access to advanced medical treatment while supporting the growing healthcare needs of the region.
Large scale infrastructure investments also create employment opportunities during construction and encourage future commercial and residential development.
The planned investment of around ₹4,600 crore highlights the government's focus on building modern infrastructure that supports both economic progress and public welfare. As these projects move forward Chandigarh and the surrounding Tricity region are expected to become better connected, medically stronger and more prepared for future growth.
With improved transport networks and upgraded healthcare facilities this development package represents an important step toward creating a smarter and more efficient urban ecosystem for North India.
