The clock is ticking for one of the Tricity’s most crucial road upgrades . Authorities have set March 31 as the deadline for completing the widening of the Hallomajra to Zirakpur service lane a stretch that carries heavy daily traffic and has long been a bottleneck for commuters. The move is expected to bring much needed relief to thousands of motorists who rely on this corridor every day.
The Hallomajra to Zirakpur stretch serves as a vital link between Chandigarh and Zirakpur . With increasing residential and commercial development in the region traffic volume on this route has surged sharply. Narrow service lanes, frequent choke points and slow moving vehicles have made peak hour travel frustrating and time consuming. The March 31 deadline reflects growing pressure on agencies to deliver timely infrastructure upgrades.
Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav has instructed that the cycle track on Purv Marg and the widening of the service lane from Hallomajra to the Zirakpur light point be finished by March 31 with the dual objective of encouraging non motorised transport and reducing traffic congestion on the busy stretch.
The project focuses on widening the existing service lane to allow smoother vehicular movement and reduce congestion. Improved road width, better surface quality and cycle track are part of the plan. Once completed the upgraded lane is expected to handle traffic more efficiently especially during rush hours and weekends when congestion peaks.
Work on the service lane has gained pace with machinery and manpower deployed across key sections. Officials are closely monitoring progress to ensure that construction stays on schedule. Traffic management measures have been introduced to minimise inconvenience during execution though commuters may still face shor term disruptions until the work is completed.
For regular commuters the widened service lane promises shorter travel times and safer driving conditions. Reduced bottlenecks will ease pressure on the main carriageway leading to more balanced traffic flow across the corridor. Pedestrians and two-wheeler riders are also expected to benefit from better road geometry and clearer movement space.
As the March 31 deadline approaches the Hallomajra to Zirakpur service lane expansion stands as a critical test of timely execution. While short term inconvenience remains unavoidable the long term gains reduced congestion, safer travel and better connectivity make this upgrade a much awaited step toward smoother urban mobility in the Tricity region
