Singhpura Flyover Opens, Chaos Erupts on Day One of Traffic Flow!
Singhpura Flyover Opens: Commuters Face Unforeseen Chaos

Today, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) opened one lane of the much-awaited Singhpura flyover in Zirakpur to traffic. This long-anticipated step was expected to relieve congestion for commuters traveling from Chandigarh to Dera Bassi. However, the reality on the ground was quite different. On the first day, chaos erupted around the diversions and on the flyover itself. Many travelers appeared disoriented, especially near the diversions. The absence of traffic police or marshals to manage the flow, particularly during the evening rush hours, only added to the confusion and worsened the situation.

As a temporary measure, the Singhpura flyover, originally designed to facilitate travel from Dera Bassi to Chandigarh, is currently being used for traffic in both directions — from Chandigarh to Dera Bassi as well — until both lanes are fully completed.

In an effort to ease traffic congestion in the area, an unusual decision has been made to allow vehicles traveling to Dera Bassi to use the Singhpura flyover, which was initially designed in the opposite direction. Recently, the NHAI completed the final touches, including carpeting, cleaning, and painting, with an emphasis on ensuring a smooth diversion. NHAI officials have promised that traffic police will be on duty during this transitional phase and have urged commuters to adhere to traffic rules for seamless movement. The flyover’s construction had been stalled for three years due to a land acquisition dispute between the NHAI and a resort owner. Work on one side of the flyover came to a halt nearly a year ago. NHAI Project Director, Pradeep Attri, assured that although the existing service lane will be narrower, it will still remain in use as before. — TNS
