Game Changer for Tricity Traffic: Mohali IT City Kurali Expressway Opened

Tricity  commuters have a major reason to celebrate as the  Mohali IT City Kurali Expressway has officially opened bringing long awaited relief from daily traffic congestion. Designed to improve connectivity between Mohali’s fast growing  IT hub and  Kurali this new expressway is already being hailed as a transformative step in the region’s urban infrastructure journey.

Commute Time Cut by 45 Minutes

One of the biggest highlights of the expressway is the dramatic reduction in travel time. What earlier took over an hour during peak traffic can now be covered in significantly less time & saving commuters nearly  45 minutes per trip. This improvement translates into  reduced stress and better work life balance for thousands of daily travelers.

Beyond personal convenience this  signal free corridor  is expected to drive down logistics costs and boost regional productivity making the Mohali Kurali stretch a cornerstone of Punjab's modern infrastructure.

A Direct Boost to IT City Connectivity

Mohali IT City has emerged as a prominent employment and business destination drawing professionals from across Tricity and nearby towns. The new expressway creates a seamless, signal free link between IT City and Kurali making daily commuting smoother and more predictable. For IT professionals and corporate employees this connectivity upgrade is a major lifestyle advantage.

Shorter travel times mean less fuel consumption and lower vehicle emissions . Over time this reduction can contribute to improved air quality and a  smaller carbon footprint  aligning with sustainable urban development goals for the Tricity region.

Positive Impact on Real Estate Growth

Infrastructure development often drives real estate momentum and this expressway is no exception. Areas along and around the  Mohali IT City Kurali corridor are witnessing growing interest from both residential and commercial buyers. Improved accessibility is expected to push demand for housing projects, office spaces and mixed use developments making the region attractive for long term investment.

The opening of the Mohali IT City Kurali Expressway is already boosting real estate growth in the surrounding areas. Improved connectivity and reduced commute times are driving demand for  residential  and  commercial  properties making nearby sectors highly attractive for investors and home buyers looking for long term value.

Relief for Tricity’s Overburdened Roads

With traffic volumes steadily rising across  Chandigarh Mohali  and  Panchkula  the expressway offers a much needed alternative route. By diverting a significant portion of through traffic it helps ease pressure on internal city roads. Commuters can now enjoy smoother drives with fewer bottlenecks and reduced congestion during peak hours.

The newly opened expressway is set to ease pressure on  Mohali’s crowded Airport Road by redirecting inter state traffic that has no need to pass through  Mohali  or  Kharar . Vehicles can now move directly from  IT City Chowk to  Kurali bypassing both towns entirely. This strategic diversion will significantly cut congestion, reduce travel delays and lower pollution levels along one of Tricity’s most overburdened arterial corridors.

Safer and More Efficient Travel

Built with modern road design standards the expressway emphasizes safety and efficiency. Wider lanes, better road markings and controlled access points contribute to a safer driving experience. Reduced stop and go traffic also lowers the risk of accidents while improving overall travel flow.

Developed with an investment of ₹1,525.3 crore this modern  six lane highway  access controlled by  greenfield corridor  delivers smooth & signal free connectivity between  Mohali  and  Kurali  allowing vehicles to cruise seamlessly at speeds of up to 100 kmph.

Seamless Speed Ahead Mohali Kurali Expressway’s Smart Design

Stretching across 31.23 km the expressway boasts a strong and well engineered carriageway with widths ranging from 12.5 to 13.5 metres. It includes paved lanes along with earthen shoulders, enhancing driving comfort and safety while supporting smooth & high speed travel.

Designed for uninterrupted movement the corridor is reinforced with three major bridges, five minor bridges, seven flyovers, 23 underpasses and 83 culverts. All crossings are grade separated to maintain steady traffic flow. A toll plaza has been established near Bajheri village at chainage 19.600 though toll collection is yet to begin.

A Step Toward Smarter Urban Infrastructure

The  Mohali IT City Kurali Expressway reflects the region’s shift toward planned & future ready infrastructure. It sets a new benchmark for road connectivity projects and highlights the importance of integrated transport planning in rapidly expanding urban zones.

The remaining 30 km stretch of Package‑1 running from Ambala to Hisar Road to IT City is already 75% complete and is slated to open by May 2026. Once finished the entire Chandigarh Ambala Expressway will be fully operational serving as a vital segment of the Tricity ring road network and transforming regional connectivity.

Final Word

The opening of the  Mohali IT City Kurali Expressway marks a turning point for Tricity traffic management. By cutting commute times, boosting connectivity and unlocking new growth opportunities it stands as a true game changer for daily commuters, businesses and investors.

The corridor constitutes Package 2  of the ₹3,166.96 crore 61.23 km   Chandigarh Ambala six lane highway linking IT City Chowk in Mohali to Kurali via Kurali Siswan Road and spanning  215 hectares of strategically developed land.
