The Chandigarh Heritage Conservation Committee (CHCC) will meet on March 27 to discuss the Supreme Court judgement on apartmentalisation and decide the way forward for the order' s full implementation.

The SC judgement, which came in January, banned apartmentalisation or fragmentation of residential units in the city. The CHCC was given the mandate to preserve the heritage status of 'Corbusian Chandigarh' .

It had also directed that no memorandum of understanding (MOU) or agreement or settlement among co- owners of a residential unit shall be registered, nor shall it be enforceable in law for the purpose of bifurcation or division of a single residential unit into floor-wise apartments. It had asked the administration to freeze FAR and shall not increase it any further.
