Baltana is finally witnessing a breakthrough on one of its most awaited infrastructure projects the proposed railway underbridge. After years of delays, land acquisition and inter departmental coordination hurdles the project has now moved significantly closer to final approval. This marks a major milestone for residents who have long struggled with traffic congestion, safety risks and unpredictable railway crossing delays
For daily commuters Baltana’s railway crossing has always been a bottleneck. Long traffic lines during peak hours, slow vehicle movement and sudden gate closures have made this stretch one of the most challenging routes in the region. The underbridge is designed to eliminate these disruptions, offering seamless and safe connectivity.
The project’s journey has been anything but smooth. Regulatory approvals, design revisions, and communication gaps between local authorities and the railways slowed progress dramatically. However, the latest administrative push indicates that the final clearance is now within reach, signalling a positive shift in momentum.
The project was initially approved in 2021–22 with an estimated cost of ₹7.99 crore. However, progress halted for nearly three to four years because land acquisition could not be finalized and the UT administration did not release its share of funds on time. As a result of these prolonged delays, the overall project cost has risen significantly, now reaching ₹12.81 crore.
Officials confirm that the project file has reached its final stage of building the highway. With most technical and financial concerns resolved the underbridge is just one step away from the official green signal. The involvement of both local administration and railway authorities has accelerated coordination efforts. Raipur Kalan, Vikas Nagar, Baltana, Zirakpur, Dhakoli, Panchkula & Mauli Jagran will get free for the traffic bottleneck.
The approved layout includes a modern underbridge structure with stronger foundation design, improved drainage systems to prevent waterlogging and enhanced safety measures. These upgrades ensure long term durability and smooth daily operations once the project becomes operational.
Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria has approved the release of 50% of the UT’s contribution for the ₹12.81-crore project which is being executed as a joint initiative between the Railways and the UT administration.
Once completed, residents and commuters will no longer have to wait endlessly at the railway gate or deal with unpredictable closures. The underbridge will provide continuous flow, reducing travel time during peak hours and easing pressure on alternate routes.
Railway crossings often pose risks, especially for two wheelers and pedestrians trying to cross quickly before trains pass. The underbridge eliminates this danger entirely & creating a safer environment for everyone.
Improved traffic movement will strengthen connections between Baltana, Zirakpur and Chandigarh. Local businesses will gain from smoother access, increased footfall and faster transportation routes. The overall development potential of the area is likely to rise as well.
With most hurdles cleared & the final approval is anticipated soon. Once received the project will move into the execution planning stage, followed by tendering and contractor allocation.
Officials are mapping out construction phases to minimize inconvenience. Work will likely begin section wise & ensuring steady progress without fully blocking the route.
Dedicated agencies will oversee construction quality, timelines and safety compliance ensuring the project stays on track and meets the required standards.
The Baltana railway underbridge is no longer just a long pending proposal it is now on the verge of becoming a reality. With final approval expected shortly residents can look forward to safer travel, reduced congestion and a major uplift in regional connectivity. This project stands as a promising step toward a better, faster and more organized Baltana.
