India’s ambitious Bharatmala Pariyojana is reshaping the country’s highway network, unlocking new growth corridors for industries and technology hubs. With 34,800 of kilometers of expressways under construction and Bharatmala Pariyojana has to invest 5,35,000 crores to complete this project ,It is not only improving freight movement but also attracting global and domestic businesses to emerging regions. It is slated to interconnect 550 District Headquarters (from the current 300) through a minimum 4-lane highway and The Bharatmala Pariyojana project had a grand opening on 15 August 2025.
Bharatmala focuses on building Greenfield expressways, economic corridors, and feeder roads that link production centers with major markets. This reduces logistics costs, cuts travel time, and ensures smoother interstate movement of goods. For businesses, especially in e-commerce, manufacturing, and logistics, such connectivity is a game changer. Real estate along these corridors is also witnessing growth, with new industrial parks and logistic hubs being planned.
Tech giant Infosys is aligning with this infrastructure push by expanding campuses in locations supported by better connectivity. The new Mohali campus in Punjab, with an investment of ₹300 crore, is set to employ thousands of professionals and 2,500 high-paying jobs and create 210 indirect employment opportunities Similarly, development centers in Kolkata’s New Town and Hubballi in Karnataka highlight how highway access is making Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities attractive for IT and services. Improved road links ensure that talent from nearby towns can easily commute, while companies save on operational costs compared to metros.
The combination of faster highways and IT campuses creates a ripple effect for other industries.Warehousing, logistics, and supply chain hubs are emerging near expressway junctions. Manufacturing units, especially in electronics, auto components, and consumer goods, are likely to expand as transport bottlenecks reduce. Real estate developers are already eyeing land along these corridors for residential townships, coworking spaces, and commercial zones.
Bharatmala is also expected to attract foreign investments, with multinational companies considering India as a manufacturing base due to better connectivity. Service sectors such as retail, healthcare, and education will flourish around these hubs, catering to the growing workforce. However, for this vision to succeed, timely execution, supportive policies, and last-mile infrastructure will be critical.
